Screen Problems and
solutions
If not caused from an
obvious break or damage source to the panel,
screen failures can come about from five different
sources in the machine:
- The Screen Panel Light
can fail: The screen still shows some form of
display, dark and hardly visible.
- A small motherboard
in the screen panel, called an Inverta can fail:
This board supplies power to the panel light,
and when faulty will reflect the similar phenomena
to a failed panel light.
- The screen cables can
fail: Movement of the screen or oxidisation
over time causes a break in the communication
between the motherboard and the screen. Phenomena
can be the same as 1 and 2 above, and/or full
brightness with no visible image, and/or no
sign of any signal or light at all.
- The screen itself can
fail, totally or partially: Oxidisation and
movement over time results in breaks to the
interior screen connections. The screen may
light up brightly, with no visible image. It
may have lines or blocks of missing image.
- The onboard video chip
can fail: No life in the screen and no result
when plugged into external monitor. This is
rare.
Some tests on the above
problems can be carried out at Home/Office:
- Plugging the machine
up to an external monitor which reflects a normal
screen display, generally removes item 5 above
as a problem source.
- 1 and 2 above can be
determined from switching the machine on, although
this test will not determine which of the two
is the problem. Further tests are best carried
out in a workshop.
All other tests should
be carried out by a professional.

Testing and Screen Repair Services:
Wrap and Box the machine up
well, and send it to us for problem source testing
(click here for address).
We try for a 5 day turnaround
on machines sent to us but this is dependent upon
spares availability.
We charge £45 labour and £15 return
post and packing in addition to the above screen
costs if a new screen is the only solution.
These screens are generally unused.
Other solutions may have different
labour and part charges, depending on test findings,
but will be communicated and sanctioned before
processed.
